{petunia pickle bottom} + review

I remember the first time I laid eyes on a Petunia Pickle Bottom bag. A local boutique downtown was having a "grand re-opening" of their store; the boutique now had a new location, in the neatest old building ... gorgeous architecture, high ceilings with the original duct work and wiring exposed ... oh, I could so live in this space! I was moseying around - and found myself in the children's section. I do not yet have any children, but I have always loved looking through the children's department anyway. That's when I saw her. A Cake Society Satchel. At first, it did not strike me as a diaper bag at all! It was way too gorgeous to be a diaper bag, right?! Wrong.

It is a diaper bag. A fashionable diaper bag. A designer diaper bag ... a diaper bag who doesn't scream, "I am toting a breast-pump, pacis, wipes and dipes, and a change of clothes."
But, like I said ... I don't have any kids. But. I still loved it. I could use this to tote my things to and from school, or use as a carry-on. Sounds crazy, but I've had this bag on my mind since first seeing it that night a few years ago.
To my amazement, today I can proudly say that I am the owner of a Petunia Pickle Bottom Cake Society Satchel in Juniper Berry Crumb Cake!

Isn't she stunning? I have named her ... Petunia ... (of course). Not only is she pretty to look at, she is quality. I can honestly say that I have never had a bag made as well as Miss Petunia.
She opens & closes with antique brass turn-lock closure ...
...and the hardware is actually screwed into place. Quality, people. Quality.

(the handles are not too shabby, either. Sturdy ones that don't "flop" when standing alone. <= I really appreciate this.)

But, the fabric! Oh, the fabric. Its beauty is beyond words ... and so me. "Porcelain blue European cut-velvet featuring a blooming tulip design bordered in Swiss dots and coordinating porcelain blue tweed and porcelain blue water resistant lining." --- I love it so. I think I need a chair upholstered in the same fabric.

There are several pockets.
when I say several -- I mean 15. (some on the outside & inside ... plus a place to clip your keys) - ranging in sizes  - from bottle storage to a nifty cell phone pocket that is actually inside another pocket!

Petunia also keeps her self from yucky bathroom stall floors - because she has lovely little feet!
so cute, right?

Did you happen to notice the zipper around the bottom of Petunia? Well, that is in place to conceal the magical convenient changing station.
- comes complete with a wipe case & changing mat.
... plus, see those extra pockets? Organizational gold.
But wait! That's not all! Petunia has a few tricks up her sleeve ... she can quickly convert to a backpack diaper bag or clip on to your stroller thanks to the included valet hooks & shoulder straps.
While this particular bag is practically perfect in every way for my taste: shabby chic with vintage-y flair ... if you prefer something a bit more modern, Petunia Pickle Bottom has some lovely, more  modern diaper bags too!
Thank you oh so much, Petunia Pickle Bottom for allowing me to welcome Petunia into my home. I will take great care of her, I promise.

  1. What a beautiful bag! I would never think it was a diaper bag if I saw someone carrying it :)

    Have a great day!

  2. I'm a nanny and the woman I work for has one of these bags, and I am lucky enough to carry it around every day! It's kind of backpack style but you are so right! Quality and SO lovely :)

  3. Um, coolest diaper bag ever! I want one!!!

  4. Oh I got one of these beauties for my son birth last year. She was GORGEOUS. BUT having had a child before I knew what I was looking for functionally. And I have to say I was highly disappointed in this bag. Considering Petunia's rep in the diaper bag world, I thought it would have work better for a momma. The opening to the bag was way too small. Then the pure weight of the thing before I put even one thing in it had my buckled over. The fabric was a hard and non-flexible there was no holding the handles over to put in under my stroller. So I sadly returned it. Bummer I tell you, bummer.

  5. This whole post made me giggle, Celeste, considering my nickname is Petunia. ;) But I don't mind sharing with such a lovely bag!

  6. Amy: :( too bad it didn't work out for you. You know, it may actually work best as a Toddler Bag - for when you don't have to have *as much* on hand .... also, PPB has a similar bag in a different style that is much wider/more space inside.

  7. Jacky: :) I actually thought of you while writing this! ... Petunia -- it's a good name. ;)

  8. I'm blown away at the workmanship and beauty of this bag. Wow, wow, wow.

  9. Just came across your blog... promptly became a new follower. This bag is SO CUTE! I love all the other Etsy giveaways you're doing... have to check these out.

Thought I'd pop in and tell you that I have a meme called the Weekly Shop Hop on my blog, where you can link up your shop for advertisement.

    Catch you around!

  10. I am LOVING that fabric & the huge-ness of that bag! Do I keep or give as gift since my little ones are no longer wearing diapers... that's a tough one!

  11. LOVE the close up pics. I've been eyeing these bags for a while, but they're not for sale near me, and I couldn't bring myself to spend that much without seeing one. Maybe now I will.

  12. It's beautiful.Love it. Can't wait to buy it.
