{camera advice}

I need your advice. I'm finally taking the plunge and I'm going to buy a DSLR camera. I've been wanting one forever!! But, I've been hesitant because I'm clueless when it comes to knowing which one would be best and give me the most "bang for my buck."

So, if you have any suggestions - please share. Also, let me know if getting a certain lens/flash is helpful.

  1. I started with a Canon Rebel and loved it. I had it for 2 years before upgrading. I am on Team Canon so I say go for the Rebel, LOL!

  2. We purchased our Canon Rebel about two years ago and I am absolutely in love with it! It is the SINGLE best purchase we have ever made. The best part: it was the store floor model and we got it over half off!! Major score at Sears for us!

  3. I've been leaning towards a Rebel. I actually have a Rebel SLR, which is a great camera...but, sadly, is of little use now since it's not digital.

And, Amanda, thanks for the floor-model tip! Maybe I could snag me one of those.

  5. I have a Canon Rebel XSi and love it! I'm clueless about photography but this thing takes great pics even though I hardly know what I'm doing! Good luck in your search!

  6. We have an Olympus E-500 and it takes awesome pictures, and the features are excellent as well, but the only thing that we don't like about it is that it doesn't take hybrid lenses, it will ONLY take Olympus lenses and nothing else. Where as other cameras as Canons and Nikons will take hybrid lenses and that makes them more versatile, they also take awesome pictures and the latest one from Nikon, which is the D90 also and is the only DSLR camera that will take video as well, if you want to take a look at the quality of pictures that any of the cameras that people have recommended to you or you are interested in check the Flickr camera finder page, in there you can find all the models of different cameras, and pictures taken with them so you can see the quality of picture you would be getting with them and the popularity of every camera as well, here is the link:

    http://www.flickr.com/cameras/

just click on the name of the camera that you want to get info from or select the brand from the drop down menu below the cameras :)

    I hope that helps!

  8. I have the Nikon D40 and get amazing pictures. Although better in natural light but now that I am figuring out how to use it the quality for low light is a lot better. User Error! haha! Just got back from Europe and pictures are awesome. www.da-eads.blogspot.com

I have a canon rebel film and I now know the Nikon is better. But bother are good quality. I just think the Nikon is a little more user friendly.

  10. I have a sony DSLR. I bought it because I had a minolta 35mm and wanted a camera that I could use my telephoto lens on. Sony bought Minolta. I love both my Minolta film camera and my Sony DSLR. You can check out the photos on my blog.

  13. It depends on your budget. Some prefer to get an older body [like a Nikon D40] and splurge on lenses, while others like myself just want the latest regardless of whether we know how to use it or not! I got the Nikon D90 with the 18-105mm lens.

Here's an awesome site that has reviews and tutorials.

It can be somewhat overwhelming, so after awhile you just have to take the plunge!

  14. I have a Nikon D40 and it's my first DSLR... It's an absolutely great starter camera. I've been trying to get my photography biz going and it's just what I need at the moment. I'm upgrading my lenses at the moment but maybe someday I could get a more expensive Nikon dslr... it's pretty affordable and well worth it.

  15. I just took the plunge and bought a Nikon D80 and I LOVE IT! it comes with a 18-135 lens.

the D90 model is step up more $. the D40 I do not recommend because the kit comes with 2 lenses and who has the time to switch from far to close up if you're traveling.

I've owned a Canon Rebel before but the 35mm film ones and not digital. Canon is a nice model too and the Rebel is pretty much the same as the Nikon D80. I felt that Nikon gave me more for my $ and the Rebel had way too much stuff I would never use and was a lot heavier of a camera.

    hope this helps.

  16. I LOVE love love Nikon! I would save money on the camera body itself, and invest in a nice lense. BUT, before you invest in a lense, try it out...you can rent them and see if you like it or not. www.rentglass.com

  18. hello! :) i'm borrowing a canon rebel xsi from a friend and it's a pretty awesome cam. not super humongous (which is nice) since we're girls and prob don't want to hold something too heavy or big. picture quality is beautiful BUT i am def sometimes frustrated cuz i have no knowledge of photography so it's def not the same as my little compact that is basically automatic. with time tho, i think the canon rebel xsi will be an awesome addition to your collection. :)

  19. You can't go wrong with a Canon or a Nikon. Those are my favorite brands, and I've been more than pleased with the cameras I've bought from them over the years.

  20. Canon's are used most by professional photographers.

I am a photographer and use Canon only. I used to only use Nikon, but I like Canon so much better!

I would go all out and spend thousands of dollars. A Canon XT, XTi or XSi would be perfect. You can even check into used at B&H Photo! They have refurbished ones. :)

  21. I meant to say... I would NOT go all out. LOL! Oh, also. Just get the body! The stock lens is poopoo! Get a 50mm 1.8 lens! GREAT lens for $100!

  22. I'm pretty much set on a Canon xSi. Thanks for all the great advice!! I found the xSi @ camerakings.com (w/ lens) for $574 (+ free shipping)...not bad?
